018We’re all about the movies…

The first movie we ever saw together on the day we met was 'Crash', its well, it's not really a date movie but the ensemble of actors wowed us and hell we weren't really watching anyway :D. Now that it won best picture I got to thinking of maybe seeing it again. It was a pretty serious, heavy movie but I'm glad to see some of the particularly gripping scenes and the ending especially (after kissing breaks).
Ang Lee won as best director, not surprised there. I think highly of the man who brought us 'Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon'. If only to introduce us movie fans to the grace and presence of Michelle Yeoh and Ziyi Zhang (who was wonderful in 'Memoirs…'). I liked 'Brokeback Mountain', I liked how it's not trying to be anything except the story of these two cowboys whose lives were completely changed when they took a job to watch over sheep's. I don't particularly like the tragic ending, which is a trend I think, in Hollywood movies when it comes to movies with gay themes. But all in all it is
We didn't get to watch the whole of the recent Oscars. The primetime version wasn't very whole at all, which makes sense I suppose, it's about 5 hours. But I think the primetime viewers missed out on some of John Stewart's jokes, a few montage about movies, and a famous violinist playing the theme songs of the nominated pictures, I couldn't tell you the rest I only had my lunch break to watch. But I don't think they edited the good stuff, like George Clooney's speech or Reese Witherspoon's. Jennifer Garner's minor slip on stage and her witty comeback, wonder if they teach you that in actor school…
I liked Lilly Tomlin and Meryl Streep's little repartee. I think Scarlett, Kiera and the rest of the young actresses could learn a little bit from these already established actors.
I think that if you are even if a fraction interested about the entertainment business you'd probably watch a little bit of that Award show that is said to be Hollywood's biggest night. Some may watch it for the fashion, some cause they're favorite stars maybe up for the running, some may just be curious about what could be happening… if Brad and Angelina would show up and take the kids to see the award show or not.
Mostly I like it because I get to see how big the entertainment business really is, how they pay homage to some obscure film maker who still makes hand drawn animation, the visionaries, the innovators.
When I was younger, learning about this and being totally in love with the magic of movies and movie making I made it a habit to see the movie until the credits are over. My parents get impatient of course, so I only do it when I watch alone. I don't know… I guess it's my little way of showing my appreciation, also I think I fancy seeing my name up there. Wouldn't it be great to partake in that world? So the fascination never really ends.
